Hello Sunshine!

BBQs, cocktails, sunsets what’s not to like about summer, skin gets darker hair gets lighter. We all know how harmful the sun is to our skin but did you know your hair also needs protection.

Help your hair in the sun with these handy tips
Sun and hair don’t always make a happy mix. Hair tends to get burnt in the sun and can turn your lovely creamy highlights brownish and fade out your newly dyed rich brunettes and coppers. When your hair is coloured and you venture out in the hot sun this dries out your hair leading to excessive hair damage, this is what fades out the colour.
Why waste all that money on getting the perfect colour for it to get ruined in the sun. To protect your hair use Alterna Bamboo Beach, Ocean Waves £20

Hair has the amazing ability to absorb moisture, like a sponge. By thoroughly rinsing your hair with fresh water before entering the pool, you make it more difficult for the hair to absorb chlorinated water. The most common way chlorine damages the hair is by making it dry and porous, which will lead to discoloration. Make sure you wash your hair after swimming to reverse the damage.

Summer heat makes your hair extra dry, making it frizzy. Give it a little love by restoring some of the moisture and life by using a good rinse out treatment.

Well as its the big Royal wedding this weekend I thought I would give you lovely brides some tips for your hair for leading up to your big day.
6 months to go: All the time in the world
So if you are planning on changing your colour or style now is the time. If you are looking at taking darker hair lighter it gives your hairdresser time to achieve the desired look and keep the condition of your hair. It also gives you time to get used to your new look. remember you need to feel comfortable and 100% 'you' on the day.
4 months to go: Go on treat yourself
Start doing conditioning treatments, you want your hair to be in tip top condition on your day. Shiny healthy hair always looks better on pictures.
We recommend- A good all rounder is Alterna Caviar moisture mask £42
For fine hair Kevin Murphy Angel Mask £25
2 months before: Practice makes perfect
Have a look on the web and social media. Try creating a mood board of styles you like (and don't) to show your stylist this will give them a really good idea of what you are looking for. A good time for your trial is the morning before you are going for a dress fitting, this way you can see if the style you have chosen works well with your dress.
7 to 10 days to go: Its the final countdown
This is the best time to have your final colour and cut. It means your colour is still super fresh for the big day but your cut has had time to settle in.
The day before: 'I'm getting married in the morning'
Wash your hair the day before and leave it natural. When hair is too soft it can cause curls to drop quicker. Dont style your hair or use products as this will limit what your stylist can achieve.
The BIG Day
Relax, leave it all to your stylist , they know what they are doing. This is going to be one of the best days of your life, Enjoy It!!
Good Luck, Peace Love and Perfect Hair xx

Shampoo, Rinse, Repeat!

Ok so this post is going to be short but sweet. I'm going to just give you a few facts about shampoos and conditioners, because well life is too short to be reading information that quite honestly only the scientist and manufacturers need to know about.

Why should you use Professional Shampoo and Conditioner?

Fact 1- Your colour will last longer
Most professional shampoos and conditioners are sulfate free. Sulfates are the ingredients that make your shampoo lather. This adds absolutely no benefit to the hair but will make you think it is cleaner because of the lather.  When using them hair gets stripped of its natural oils and colour by detergents in shampoo that contain sulfates.
Fact 2- Doing 2 shampoos is better than 1
This is because the first shampoo opens the cuticle leaving the second one to remove dirt and treat your hair issues.
Fact 3- Shop bought products leave a build up
Any products that contain silicone are not good. Silicone is a cheap chemical that's added to shampoo and conditioner to add a shine to your hair. It does this by forming a layer around the hair shaft. This gives the illusion of healthy hair but does in fact smother the hair preventing moisture from penetrating which can lead to dry brittle ends. Plus because the hair is coated you can never really get it clean leaving you with greasy roots that gets weighted down. To check your products look for words ending in 'cone' in the list of ingredients.
Fact 4- It will be easier to manage
No two heads are the same. Salon quality shampoo and conditioner are tailored for this reason, making it easier to manage your hair. Its texture and condition affect how the product preforms. Salon products contain essential oils and a higher level of ingredients that that work with the ph levels of your skin and hair nourishing and strengthening the outer layer of your hair helping it to stay conditioned, smooth and shiny.

Here are some recommendations for you from us

Baby its cold outside

During the winter months cold outside weather combined with dry indoor heating wreaks havoc on your hair, leading to split ends and breakage. Here are 5 tips to help you through the cold months.

1: Maintain Moisture – Dry air will whip all the moisture from your hair, so always make sure to use an oil or leave in conditioner on your hair to keep it hydrated. Product to try: MUK 20 in 1 £12.95
2: Weekly hair mask – Conditioning treatments are good to replenish moisture in the winter, as the hair becomes dehydrated from the dry heat from fires or central heating found in your home or work place. Also look at changing your rinse out conditioner to a more moisture rich conditioner. Product to try: Kevin Murphy Hydrate-Me Masque £27.00
3: Combat static – Using oils or moisture creams will reduce static electricity caused by hats, scarves and dry heat in your home.
4: Dry dry dry – Make sure your hair is dry before going outside as your hair is at its most venerable state when its wet. Wet hair plus freezing air can lead to dry brittle hair that’s easily damaged.
5: Stay on top of detangling – Remember the main reason for hair damage in the winter months is due to the lack of moisture, caused by heat in your home. That combined with hats and scarves cause long hair to become tangled, resulting in your winter hair dramas. Carry a brush and brush your hair out regularly.

Top tip – Keep on top of trims in the winter months. Its important to keep the ends of your hair trimmed as it keeps dry brittle broken split ends at bay.
